VicSuper among world leaders for responsible investment
We have some great news.
VicSuper has been named among only 10% of global asset owner signatories that have qualified for the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) Leaders Group1.
This inaugural initiative recognises outstanding leadership and showcases best practices from signatories in responsible investing across all asset classes. VicSuper was one of only 6 Australian asset owners to be recognised in this group. The 2019 PRI Leaders’ Group focused on the selection, appointment and monitoring of external managers in listed and private equity by asset owners. Signatories were scored in relation to governance, implementation and transparency.
VicSuper’s inclusion in the PRI Leaders’ Group further builds on VicSuper’s considerable work in the responsible investment space, having already achieved a PRI A+ rating over the past two consecutive years. We take issues like climate change very seriously and have been working hard to include even more assets in our investment portfolio that contribute to sustainable outcomes that you can feel good about. We set ourselves an ambitious responsible investment target of having $3 billion invested in sustainable outcomes by 2020, and pleasingly we achieved that goal one year early.
Responsible investment is an integral part of the Fund’s overall investment approach and managing environmental, social and governance risks is key to our investment strategy. We believe that competitive long term returns and responsible investment can go hand in hand. Our team continues to look for new investments that aim to produce sustainable outcomes, which can be in areas such as renewable energy and property investments that target reduced carbon emissions.
The VicSuper FutureSaver Growth (MySuper) investment option delivered a strong return of 11.47% over 12 months to 31 October this year. The MySuper Growth option was in the top ten performing funds over 7 and 10 years2. Our VicSuper Flexible Income Capital Stable investment option delivered a strong return of 9.60%3 to 31 October this year.
This global recognition for our leading responsible investment approach, combined with our recent investment returns, demonstrates our long held belief that competitive, consistent returns and responsible investment can go hand in hand.
Thank you for being part of the VicSuper community and we’ll continue to work hard to help create a sustainable future you can look forward to.ttps://www.unpri.org/signatories/showcasing-leadership/leaders-group-2019
